Nuclear Medicine Training – Dose Administration

The bulk of Nuclear Medicine radioactivity records are a result of Dose Administration to patients.

From one administration, the pot quantity is reduced by the dispensed amount, a syringe record is created, the syringe is disposed of by multiple disposal routes (including updating sharps contents), and a dose administration record is created.

To record a Dose Administration, open the Nuclear Medicine – Dose Administration screen.

You can only record doses against products that a) have been released and b) are in a Dose Administration area.

Select the pot you are dispensing from and click Administer radiopharmaceutical from the side menu.

The screen will show basic information about the product – investigation, radiopharmaceutical, expiry date/time etc.

On the right-hand side, the DRLs are shown. Clicking the Use button will automatically set the required activity to the local DRL. This can be manually typed if different. IsoStock provides a guide volume that meets the required activity.

Enter the patient name/number (if required) and who is administering and checking. You can optionally enter the administration site.

On the right-hand side, you will need to enter the measured activity in the injection/dose. You can also optionally enter the measured post-activity after the administration. This can subsequently be allocated to a sharps bin/waste container.

In the bottom half of the screen, the disposal options will be pre-filled with the agreed percentages as per the IPEM Excretion Factors configured for the investigation. This setting will normally have an allowance for the disposal of the residual activity to a sharps bin. Select the type of container and the reference of the container being used and click the All option to allocate the residual activity. Where a post-injection/admin activity was measured and entered, you can use the Allocate post activity check box to allocate this to the selected container.

IsoStock will update the contents of the product/pot and add the dose to the list at the bottom of the screen.

Disposing of empty pots

If a used pot is to be discarded to a bin after the dose has been given, you can record this using the Dispose of Remaining option.

Select the disposal route(s) that the pot is being disposed to and enter the percentage being disposed of by that route.
