Enter Use of a Compound

From the main menu Compounds,

  • Select Compound Details

The Compound Details screen will be displayed. By default, this shows the details of the last accessed compound. The default can be changed using Setup – Personal Settings

On the left-hand side of the screen, there is a box labelled Search For Reference.

  • Enter the unique reference code of the compound being used (or select it from the drop-down list if it has been used before)

This will display the details of the compound

  • Select Use This Compound from the menu on the left-hand side of the screen.

A blank Use Compound screen will be displayed, which needs to be completed.

  • You can then select whether the compound is used in its entirety or whether you are taking a sub-sample (which will be given a new reference code)
  • If used in entirety, you simply enter the date/time that it was used and the user that was using it, otherwise;
  • Enter the date/time that the sub-sample was taken/used
  • Enter the department that used the sub-sample – this will fill in automatically if access is restricted to one department
  • Enter the user that used the sub-sample – this will default to your user name
  • Enter the protocol or licence that the sub-sample is for (if protocols are being used on your site)
  • Optionally enter the project that the sub-sample was used for – this may be a project code or study number
  • Enter the location that the compound will be used in or kept in whilst not directly in use. Depending on the configuration in use on your site, you may need to select a location, store (and possibly store detail)

You can then enter either

  • The quantity being taken from the stock
  • The activity being taken from the stock – decay corrected to the date and time entered
  • The percentage of stock being taken. Note that the percentage is always relative to the original stock, NOT what is currently remaining

Entering one of these values will automatically calculate the other two. You can use this to calculate the amount of stock to use – enter the activity required, and the quantity will be calculated.

  • If automatic reference codes are not in use on your site you will be required to enter a reference code for your sub-sample
  • You may optionally enter (or change) the expiry date for the material. This is used to highlight to a supervisor when the compound is unlikely to be of use and should ideally be disposed of
  • You may optionally enter the Lab Book Number (or any other reference to the work being carried)

Clicking OK will confirm the details and add the new sub-sample. The stock compound will be automatically reduced by the amount taken.

Variations – this entry can be performed by selecting Use Compound directly from the Compounds menu. If this method is used, the compound searching/selection is done from the same screen.
